British Columbia

We finally reached our destination!

Waking up in the early morning, watching the fog drift over the water proved British Columbia’s beauty.

Our drive was to Whistler which meant we would spend the whole trip driving through the mountains.

Our soundtrack: The Civil Wars.

Blasting ‘Barton Hollow‘ while the mountains surrounded us was sensational. The powerful vocals and heavy pounding beat encompassed us as the mountains grew. The weight of the world could be on my shoulders but looking back at this moment brings me peace. We are so little, the world so big.

After the powerhouse performance the atmosphere shifts – ‘The Violet Hour‘ forcing you into contemplation. The soft piano and haunting violin provide the perfect background to your appreciation.

The drive was amazing, one of the most scenic and interesting. When the sun decided to peak out from behind the white clouds, the day became that much more beautiful.

From here the day became a little more complicated. Going down huge, twisting mountains in a tiny car is not the best way to travel. Halfway down a particular mountain the car behind us began driving absurdly close. Upon stopping, he let us know our car was smoking and our brakes were about to go out.

Not the words you want to hear.

Twenty-five minutes later – and a brief call to the family – we were back on the road. Whistler is adorable. All the buildings look like ski cabins and the village is tiny. I can’t wait to see it with snow.

We stayed the night with my roommates brother, another low key night. The next day was Vancouver.

I cannot believe we actually made it here. Vancouver is amazing, a tiny Toronto. It was bigger than I thought it would be but in a good way. While I’m still figuring the city out and searching for a job, I am having the best time here. I recommend the city to everyone, the parks are stunning, the city is wonderful and being beside the ocean is the best.
