The Life Aquatic Soundtrack

Wes Anderson is one of the most unique directors out there right now. His style and characters are incredible and always make fascinating stories. I recently watched The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou featuring an incredible cast. Anderson staples Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Anjelica Huston, as well as Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and Willem Dafoe.

The soundtrack features a heavy amount of David Bowie, although not in the original form. Throughout the film Seu Jorge sings various Bowie hits in Portuguese. Above is Bowie’s 1972 hit ‘Ziggy Stardust.’ These acoustic songs add a beautiful touch to the film and fit perfectly with the atmosphere.

Jorge translated each song himself and even changed the words around. “I changed the words quite a lot,” Jorge said. “I wanted each song to be about a different character.” After recording these songs for The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions, Bowie had this to say about Jorge: “Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs acoustically in Portuguese,” Bowie noted in the album’s liner notes, “I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.”

The rest of the songs are under the cut.
