Community is arguably the most intelligent and certainly has the best writing for a comedy on television today. What this generally means is that viewership is low but obsessive, and that networks have little faith in their profits. It happened with Freaks and Geeks, Firefly, Arrested Development and now it’s beginning to happen to Community.

While the cult following of Community fans are at its strongest, the amount of petitions, posters and fan mail for this show is outrageous. The viewership is not reflecting the amount of love this show receives. NBC is making a huge mistake in benching Community for 30 Rock, and this is saying a lot since 30 Rock is brilliant.

NBC is wasting its time with comedies like Whitney…really? … and benching great writing, fabulous acting and real stories based on incredible parallels to movies and television.

This season of Community is by far their darkest, but after thinking about each episode I found myself excited.

Last season we saw Abed go through an emotional breakdown and Pierce get hooked on drugs. We learned how out of his mind bonkers Chang is, and that Shirley had a baby that could have been Chang’s love-child. This isn’t your average sitcom, but through these crazy events Community was still hilarious.

This season has become more infused with the dark side of [creator Dan] Harmon’s humor and really exposes the flaws of this group. How Community has not been nominated or won an Emmy is beyond me.

The cast itself has incredible resume’s and the guest stars rival Arrested Development. Donald Glover has written for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and 30 Rock, as well as having a stand up and rap (Childish Gambino) career. Joel McHale has a hilarious show on E! called The Soup where he blasts reality television stars/shows. Alison Brie is Trudy on Mad Men, need I say more. Jim Rash co-wrote The Descendants. And Pierce is Chevy freaking Chase.

Guest stars include Betty White, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, John Goodman, Martin Starr, John Oliver, Anthony Michael Hall, Michael Kenneth Williams, Patton Oswald etc. The list goes on and on and each person’s stint on the show was fantastic.

The show has also cultivated a large amount of catch phrases. Magnitudes “Pop, pop,” Shirley’s “Ooh, that’s nice,” “Troy and Abed in the morning,” when someone does something wrong it was “Britta’d,” “Street’s Ahead,” etc. This show has everything needed to have an incredible run and a large fanbase.

Jim Rash as Dean Pelton, outfit changes:

Community is a show me and my mother watch together when I’m home. I even got an email from her about Community being benched, which says a lot. Community bridges the gaps of all generations and its references allow for any age to join in. One of my favourite lines is from the episode where they trick Pierce into wearing the Cookie Crisp outfit.

Troy: “‎It’s not a meteor it’s a cookie wand, me and Jeff made it because it made you look like the Cookie Crisp wizard. Which is not even a reference I get because the Cookie Crisp wasn’t a wizard when I was a kid, it was a burglar”

It is very disappointing to lose another fantastic show, even for a little while. With How I Met Your Mother in a huge slump, losing Community is heartbreaking. 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Happy Endings, Modern Family and Up All Night are all fantastic but they all fit into the same sense of humor. It was nice to have a show where you need to think a little deeper. Don’t mess this up NBC, you are already a fourth place network, and being compared to FOX will not help you.
