The American Scholar

I recently read Ralph Waldo Emersons speech ‘The American Scholar‘ for class and found this quote. It is nothing groundbreaking but it is a beautiful thought. It is wonderful when you can relate or understand something someone wrote for a completely different generation of people. It also shows that people expperience the same emotions no matter what circumstance, race, social class, etc. I think this mirrors a lot of what goes on in society and wanted to share.

“There is some awe mixed with the joy of our surprise, when this poet, who lived in some past world, two or three hundred years ago, says that which lies close to my own soul, that which I also had well-nigh thought and said.” (Emerson. II).
