The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor.

Alyss, born in Wonderland, is destined to be a warrior queen. After a bloody coup topples the Heart regime, Alyss is exiled to another world entirely, where she is adopted into a new family, renamed Alice and befriended by Lewis Carroll. At age 20 she returns to Wonderland to battle Redd and lead Wonderland into its next golden age of imagination.

This YA novel is another version of the events happening in Wonderland. Beddor’s imagination took over in creating a real world out of the wacky world illustrated in Carroll’s novel.

Beddor makes the mad hatter a sword welding assassin Hatter Madigan, tweedledee and tweedledum become General Doppelganger, who can split apart to create Generals Doppel and Ganger, and the sly but helpful cat becomes the evil assassin The Cat who works for the Queen of Black Imagination Redd.

His world is full of imagination and creativity while still balancing the realism the original lacks. The Looking Glass Wars leaves you on the edge of your seat as you and Alyss move throughout Wonderland to save her home from evil.

This novel is perfect for those who love Alice in Wonderland and are looking to explore the world in a different way. It is also a very quick read and can be finished in an afternoon.
