Interesting Post of the Day

Tony Cenicola/The New York Times - Franz and Frieda Krieger in Munich, probably in 1942.

Yesterday, June 21st, the New York Times published a story about a newly found photo album of pictures from WWII. The photographer had access to the ghettos as well as close access to Adolf Hitler. Having just taken a class on the Holocaust I found this fasinating. I find it interesting to see things from the perspective of the Nazi soldiers, even though I cannot comprehend their actions. The photos are incredible and show the real side of what was going on at the time. Today, June 22nd, they posted a follow up to the article. Historian Harriet Scharnberg revealed the name of the photographer as Franz Krieger.

William P. O’Donnell, assistant editor and manager of image support, made the scans. Reporting was contributed by J.  P. Roth.
